Position Title
Senior Researcher
Sarah Khan is a Senior Researcher with the India ZEV Research Centre. Her work spans the electric mobility transition, battery value-chain development, and critical mineral demand–supply assessment. She has developed analytical frameworks to estimate mineral requirements across clean-energy technologies and has worked on electrification pathways, fuel-economy regulations for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, and fuel-demand analysis for the road transport sector. Her research combines modelling, supply-chain analysis, and policy-oriented evaluation to inform government decision-making and support the strengthening of battery and critical mineral value chains.
Prior to this, she worked with the Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), where she contributed to the development of the system-dynamics model SAFARI to explore long-term pathways for sustainable and climate-aligned development. She supported national and state-level low-carbon planning efforts and led analytical work in the buildings and transport sectors using integrated modelling approaches. Her earlier research experience also includes developing an air-quality model that examined interactions across transport, industrial activity, and urban dust emissions.
She holds a PhD in system-dynamics modelling for air quality from Jamia Millia Islamia, India, and a Master of Technology in Environmental Engineering from Delhi Technological University, where she graduated as a Gold Medalist.
