Position Title
Senior Researcher
Jason Hill is a Senior Researcher at the Global South Center for Clean Transportation. Prior to joining UC Davis, Jason served as a Senior International Policy Advisor and Division Chief at the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Office of International Transportation and Trade. During Jason’s fifteen years at USDOT, he was responsible for international engagement efforts across multiple regions, including the creation of the U.S.-India Transportation Partnership, the elevation of the United States as a Transportation Dialogue Partner with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the formation of a mobility program under the U.S.-ASEAN Smart Cities Partnership, and the formation of an aviation training academy in Ghana as a part of the Safe Skies for Africa initiative. Ultimately, his efforts culminated in his designing and launching “Momentum,” USDOT’s international capacity building program, which provided technical assistance and training to governments in the Global South in support of President Biden’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment, established in 2022.
In 2020, the U.S. Government nominated Jason to serve as the Lead Shepherd (chair position) of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Transportation Working Group (APEC TPTWG). He served as Lead Shepherd for four years, reforming the group and targeting its policy discussions towards emerging transportation technologies.
Jason holds a Master of Law in International Development from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Tufts University.
